A grave in J7

Amer Ahmad – March 2026

Since around 2000, the region has not experienced a winter harsher than this one, except for 2018. Due to the heavy rainfall over the past five days, some collapses have been observed on site. Overall, these collapses do not appear to have caused significant damage, but, what drew particular attention was a small collapse in J7.

Grave Location

The collapse revealed a grave containing a skeleton and some mud bricks.

Any excavation in the area requires the expedition to be present on-site and an official decision to be made. Therefore, it was not possible to carry out any work other than concealing the grave to prevent tampering. As a precautionary measure, we have re-covered the grave with soil as much as possible.

Note: Although the original excavation unit was C2, the grave was recorded under the J7 label. This is because J7 represents the next excavation unit, and there is no C2 unit book available in the UGR.
